It is not that you don’t know you are choosing is not knowing what to choose. To begin transformation there are simple choices that begin this process. They are not hard to do and can have a profound impact on your future.
Internal words are a key to our inner emotions. Notice the words you say to yourself, make a list of the things you consistently say. Write them down so you will be aware of them. The value here is to notice that the emotions are not usually positive with these words. Choosing to restate the words or sentences will slow down the neg emotions.
“Today I choose to be more kind to me. I will notice my inner dialogue and restate it in a positive manner.” “I am not dumb. I don’t know how to do this.” “I am angry because I always make this same mistake. I know I can do this and I will do this better.” “It seems like things are always against me, yet I know they are not. I choose to feel like I am not a victim. I can choosing to be different on the inside”.
You get to choose how you think and how you feel. It might not feel like that is true, but for real, you do. Somewhere along the way, you choose. You choose to feel and believe what you believe based on the things going on around you at the time.
The choice might not have been what you would make now, but the choice you made was done with the information you had at the time. That is just how it is. These choices are more often than not an unconscious decision because we internalize these events pretty fast as a child.
The good part here is, you can unchoose. Anything that is learned can be unlearned.
Choices about where we eat, what clothes we wear, and who we marry are all related what is available. We can’t choose something that is not available. We can’t eat at a Restaurant that is not there, and we can’t buy food that our local market does not offer. We don’t meet someone to marry unless we are in the place where we can meet them. Online changes this somewhat but still we can car order food, meet someone or have things that are not in our current environment. We do however have to choose them, put effort into finding them, and the accept the choice we make.
When it comes to personal transformation, one of the most common initial expressions seems to me’ I don’t think I can change that”. There is some truth to that. There are some things that we can’t change.
What we don’t choose is the body we have, the place we were born, who raised us, or where were lived as children.
What we can choose is how we see the world. We can choose to see, view, re-experience and live and behave differently. Choosing is not easy because the past experiences seems, sometimes, like a permanent part of who we are.
Experiences we have had in the past are true. (adding) The are artifacts, events that are logged by our minds and used to influence our future thinking. We cannot change them or have different actual events.
We do have complete control over what we think. Having free will to choose what we think is the amazing power we have been given. Unchoosing, rechoosing, re wiring if you will, is the most powerful tool you have available to you. Thinking differently, choosing to take a different internal path of thought. We will discuss this more in the “How to use this book” section.
